Gillian Anderson is back as the truly twisted 'Media' and her many guises, including an uncanny David Bowie impersonation. A lot more of the newer gods in this episode, including the welcomed introduction of Crispin Glover as Mr World in a truly psychedelic prison break scene.
Cheesy dialogue and a messy narrative make this a confusing outing. It's a wonky blend of the original Alien and Prometheus. Apples and Oranges.
Guardians 2 is a clever and entertaining sci-fi / action romp with amazing pop culture references and wit, which towards the end, is almost completely ruined by ridiculous plot twists, poor leads, and layer upon layer of cheese. Thank god for Baby Groot.
The film has stunning visuals and expert creature creation but fails when it comes to executing feeling, character, and any kind of a plot. It spent too much time trying to be The Thing, and forgot to be itself.
The live-action adaptation of the cult anime Ghost in the Shell is probably one of the most visually perfect films to grace our screens so far this year. It's great to have some cyber punk to sink our teeth into again, but its poor attempts at provoking emotional responses and philosophical debate bring it down to your standard 3-star action film.
Life is a well crafted thriller / action movie, but lacks when it comes to the horror and suspense that it was obviously trying to achieve. Nevertheless, some beautiful concept design and interesting characters.
Probably one of the most fun and tongue-in-cheek festivals in Prague. From Tuesday 28/02 - Sunday 05/03, the Shockproof Film Festival (Festival otrlého diváka) is dedicated to filth, schlock, comedy, horror, B-grade, X-rated - the most bizarre titles from ancient cult classics to present day. In its 13th year, the festival has a whole new host of titles to offer the eager cinema goer, as well as some old faithfuls. It's an insanely interactive festival. Almost like a 21st century rebirth of the classic 'Cinema of Attractions'.
