By Ryan Keating-Lambert

The Future Gate Sci-fi Film Festival is upon us and will boast an impressive and eclectic mix of titles this year, including classics like the The Fifth Element and Terminator 2.

Based around Prague’s gorgeous Kino Lucerna from 15 – 18 February, Future Gate will celebrate the fifth year of the festival with exclusive screenings of the Luc Besson cult classic The Fifth Element, as well as James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

The new How to Talk to Girls at Parties will also screen on the festival’s opening night. Directed by John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus) and starring Elle Fanning, Alex Sharp and Nicole Kidman, the film is based on the popular Neil Gaiman short story of the same name and sees an extra-terrestrial girl discover love and punk in London during the late ’70s.

The festival will also screen European classics like The Fabulous World of Jules Verne by iconic Czech director Karel Zeman and Polish socialist gem Sexmission (Seksmisja), as well as a block of sci-fi shorts including recent Czech production I Am the Doorway, directed by Robin Kašpařík, based on the short story by master of horror Stephen King.
