New historic drama Charlatan directed by Agnieszka Holland (Europa Europa, The Burning Bush) is turning heads everywhere for its tender portrayal of historic Czech healer Jan Mikolášek who cured hundreds with plant-based remedies during occupied Czechoslovakia.
Local filmmaker Daria Kashcheeva’s Dcera (Daughter) has been nominated for Best Animated Short Film at this year’s Academy Awards.
Taika Waititi’s new film is a creative take on WWII misery and is absolutely hilarious at times, as it is upsetting, and unfortunately that does mean it’s a little tonally off, but its strength is in its children – they drive this film. And the debut performance of Roman Griffin Davis as the lovable Nazi-obsessed ‘Jojo’ is one of the most memorable of the year.
The Prague filmed Jo Jo Rabbit finally gets its first trailer, and it’s full of familar streets, buildings and countryside in and surrounding the Czech capital.
