Prague Shorts to screen Oscar nominated Czech short ‘Dcera’ (Daughter)

By Ryan Keating-Lambert

Prague Shorts will screen local filmmaker Daria Kashcheeva’s Dcera (Daughter) which has just been nominated for Best Animated Short Film at this year’s Academy Awards.

Dcera is centred on a young girl and her complicated relationship with her estranged father and was made using stop-motion animation techniques.

Dcera was made at the prestigious Prague film school of FAMU with financial support from the Czech Film Fund.

The multi-award winning short also won the student Oscar last year.

Also nominated this year was Prague-filmed holocaust comedy Jojo Rabbit, which scored six nominations including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Production Design by another Czech local, Nora Sopková.

This year’s Academy Awards ceremony will take place on February 10th.

Catch Dcera at the upcoming Prague Shorts film festival starting January 22. For full programme details, visit the festival website.
