Birds of Prey review – Harley gives us the DCEU movie we deserve

Birds of Prey is a dynamite girl-powered superhero movie exploding with ultra-colour and a butt load of fun. Yan’s wonderfully stylised film isn’t afraid to get silly (and sweary) compared to the royal mess that was 2016’s Suicide Squad. Birds of Prey trailer – Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is back

Even if you weren’t a big fan of 2016’s villain outing Suicide Squad, you must admit that Margot Robbie carried the film with her balls out performance of the popular Batman villain… so much so that the all-female Harley Quinn spin-off Birds of Prey┬áis now here and the first trailer has dropped.

So there’s so much happening in the DCE universe that it’s almost hard to keep up. We’ve got Wonder Woman coming out next year, followed closely by Justice League – let’s hope that these two films will restore our faith in the DCE universe after the ‘mixed’ reviews of Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. There was also news a while back that Margot Robbie would be getting her own Harley Quinn spin-off movie, because let’s face it, she was the coolest thing about Suicide Squad.

Suicide Squad Extended Cut trailer

Suicide Squad was by no means perfect but it was still a bit of harmless fun and one hell of a cool marketing campaign. Fans were outraged though by the fact that so much footage was supposedly cut from the film. Even Jared Leto complained, apparently they’d cut enough Joker scenes to make a whole new movie. This new trailer gives us a little taste of what to expect. There will be 13 extra minutes altogether – more of the bar scene, more Harley Quinn, and yes, more Joker.
