Birds of Prey is a dynamite girl-powered superhero movie exploding with ultra-colour and a butt load of fun. Yan’s wonderfully stylised film isn’t afraid to get silly (and sweary) compared to the royal mess that was 2016’s Suicide Squad. Think of a slightly tamer Deadpool without all the insufferable meta BS.
Even if you weren’t a big fan of 2016’s villain outing Suicide Squad, you must admit that Margot Robbie carried the film with her balls out performance of the popular Batman villain… so much so that the all-female Harley Quinn spin-off Birds of Prey is now here and the first trailer has dropped.
The long-anticipated Justice League is finally here, and it’s totally fine. Amidst all the negative criticism and predictable Rotten Tomatoes backlash, it’s still a fun and entertaining ride.
Wonder Woman is without a doubt, one of the best superhero films of recent years. It’s popping with energy, charisma, and superb storytelling. Gal Gadot is unstoppable and a perfect fit for the Amazon princess. It took 75 years of waiting to get this character from comic to screen, but it was worth it.
So there’s so much happening in the DCE universe that it’s almost hard to keep up. We’ve got Wonder Woman coming out next year, followed closely by Justice League – let’s hope that these two films will restore our faith in the DCE universe after the ‘mixed’ reviews of Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. There was also news a while back that Margot Robbie would be getting her own Harley Quinn spin-off movie, because let’s face it, she was the coolest thing about Suicide Squad.
The latest from the DC Entertainment universe films certainly had a lot of hype and hope from comic book fans, more so after the slaughter of Batman v Superman. Suicide Squad or just ‘Skwad’ as it’s been dubbed on social media, is a fun and somewhat thrilling ride into the world of DC supervillains, and that’s about it. Nothing profound going on here, just a fun superhero movie. But that’s ok, isn’t it?
