Although things are looking a bit dire in the film industry lately, there’s still hope! Many Prague-based film festivals are adapting and moving online this season and the Mezipatra Queer Film Festival, now in its 21st year, is no exception. The festival will retain its youthful, colourful and carefree spirit despite the circumstances, and will kick off on November 5th with a live broadcast on streaming service Moje Kino, where you can watch a number of award-winning LGBTQ films until November 12th.
I’m extremely grateful for my friends at armarolla literary journal who recently published an abridged version of my short horror screenplay Sirens featuring the stunning photography of Prague-based photographer Richard Hodonicky and Slovak dancer and performance artist Martin Talaga, who has believed in this project from day one – thank you. The new issue of the journal is dedicated to musings of love and features the work of talented writers from all over the world.
Prague-based filmmaker Gem Deger’s debut feature film Playdurizm recently dropped its first trailer so I sat down with the young filmmaker to talk about making writingk, directing and starring in his own film, watching David Cronenberg as a child and his obsession with neon lighting.
A rather colourful and sensational trailer just dropped for Elton John biopic Rocketman, but can we expect another textbook and family friendly Bohemian Rhapsody?
Among the One World Documentary Film Festival’s diverse programme this year is new Canadian documentary Love, Scott which follows gay hate crime survivor Scott Jones as he revisits the atrocity committed against him.
The 19th Mezipatra Queer Film Festival is fast approaching and the festival has just released their programme along with this year’s theme, ‘Beyond Reality’, which promises to fully immerse audiences in fantasy and vivid imagination.
Love, Simon is an amusing teen romcom that wins because of its gay protagonist, even if it is sickly sweet and sentimental at times.
Czech Republic’s annual queer film festival Mezipatra recently started a crowdfunding campaign on hithit.com to raise funds for a new LGBTQ community centre in Vršovice’s Patra bar and cafe, and needs your support!
OK, dear readers. I’m on my balcony drinking wine again, so naturally it’s time for more of that personal word vomit. So, this feels like an age ago now. Before I was influenced by Aronofsky, Polanski, Tarkovsky, and other directors whose surnames end in ‘ski’, I was teenager obsessed with V for Vendetta.
New teen movie Love, Simon has met with praise all around the world for putting a gay character at the centre of its narrative, and will hit Czech cinemas early June.
