Rocketman trailer – another Bohemian Rhapsody or something a bit raunchier?

By Ryan Keating-Lambert

The rather colourful and spectacular looking Rocketman will hit Czech cinemas next week, but can we expect another textbook and family friendly Bohemian Rhapsody?

Directed by Dexter Fletcher, who finished off Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired, and starring Taron Egerton (Kingsman) as the Rocketman himself, the film chronicles the youth of Elton John and his rise to fame.

After the success of the Oscar nominated Rhapsody, which is now the top grossing musical biopic of all time, it’s no surprise that the studios are pushing for another win with Rocketman.

But will Rocketman be able to do what Rhapsody didn’t, and live up to fan expectations with appropriate queer representation and historical accuracy?

Like Freddy Mercury, Elton John is also gay, and was heavily involved in the fight against the AIDS crisis in the 1980s.

John himself is an executive producer of the film however, which is encouraging, and the biopic was also given an R rating recently, so maybe we can expect something a bit raunchy after all?

Rocketman will hit Czech cinemas May 30.
