The trailer for Shakespeare adaptation Ophelia starring Daisy Ridley has just dropped, and it looks like a gorgeous visual tribute to painter John William Waterhouse.
Directed by Australian filmmaker Claire McCarthy and based on the novel by Lisa Klein, Ophelia tells Shakespeare’s Hamlet tragedy from a side not often heard. Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley explores an entirely different character here alongside actors Naomi Watts, Clive Owen, Tom Felton and George McKay.
McCarthy’s film looks stunning, and looks to be a tribute to great art, including the aforementioned Waterhouse and of course, Sir John Everett Millais’ iconic ‘Ophelia’.
The film was actually shot in the Czech Republic in 2017, when Harry Potter actor Tom Felton famously busked in Riegrovy Sady.
Ophelia hits select cinemas around the world from June 28.
