Although far from perfect, the representation of women in film has improved in recent years. From Rosamund Pike’s ‘Marla’ in I Care A Lot to Olivia Colman’s ‘Queen Ann’ in The Favourite, the below list is a mix of recent titles that more than demonstrate that remarkable and inspiring women can now be found everywhere in film, and you should not only listen to what they have to say but give them a round of applause this International Women’s Day. Oscars 2019 – Green Book wins Best Picture!
So Green Book took away Best Picture! Seriously did not see that one coming! till quite happy with the result though. Mahershala Ali also took away Best Supporting Actor.
Movie Barf’s Top 10 films of 2018
I’m well aware that this list is coming a little late, but better late than never. As usual, this one covers my top picks for titles released in the Czech Republic during 2018, which also includes festival screenings and those released on streaming services like Netflix. So unfortunately, The Favourite is not here (it was just released and you should definitely go and see it) and Suspiria is not here either (if it was, then it would probably be close to the top). Nevertheless, there were some impressive films that popped up in our little country last year, and some of them we even saw before the rest of the world.
