Recently I was fortunate enough to sit down with Spanish illustrator Miki Montlló. Originally hailing from Terrassa, a small town outside of Barcelona, Miki was a guest judge and speaker at the RAW art wrestling illustration semi-finals in Prague last weekend, talking about his successful comic book series Warship Jolly Roger, his work with big shot animation studios like Cartoon Saloon and Laika, as well as his concept art for the new J.A. Bayona film, A Monster Calls, now showing in Czech cinemas.
One of the stand-outs at Prague Febio Fest so far, A Monster Calls is a carefully constructed masterpiece that dwells on life and death, and everything in between. A superb exercise in psychology and grief through the eyes of a child.
One of the biggest and best international film festivals in the Czech Republic is back in Prague for it’s 24th year. Febio Fest boasts an outstanding programme of films divided into unique categories, all screened at CineStar cinemas in Prague. This year the festival pays tribute to both current and classic, not to mention hosting an esteemed list of well-known filmmakers and other guests.
