Doctor Sleep is probably the most perplexing Hollywood remake/reboot/sequel of the year. Although Stephen King’s source material is strong, engaging and even creepy at times, along with Mike Flanagan’s visual flair for the gothic and grim, it buckles under the heavy half-assed attempts to bring back characters (and certain locations) from The Shining.
It Chapter 2 focuses so much on grossing you out that it ends up achieving the complete opposite. Director Andy Muschietti must have a checklist. He’s GOT to have something like that because that’s how formulaic this ‘horror’ movie really is.
The first trailer for It Chapter Two just dropped and as you probably expected, it’s full of terror… and tea.
The new Pet Sematary is one of the best Stephen King adaptations in recent years. Teeming with dread and suspense, it’s a horror nerd’s wet dream. It successfully reanimates its source material while still managing to put an original spin on the final act… plus it boasts one of the scariest cats in cinema history.
IT is fun but little more than a throwback to the ’80s adventure film – it’s another ‘Stranger Things’, with less scares.
Movie Barf
