Film Europe is opening a brand new film venue in Prague’s city centre this week – Edison filmhub will serve as a place for quality cinema, discussions, seminars and good coffee.
The modern and stylish venue, located just a a few short steps from Jindřišská Tower, will open its doors this Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st of May from 12:00 – 17:00, where Film Europe and sister distributor Be2Can will preview trailers for upcoming films selected from recent European festivals like Cannes, Berlinale and Venice.
Edison will also screen Czech avant-garde classic The Light Penetrates the Dark (Světlo proniká tmou) at the opening, an experimental short directed by Frantisek Pilát and Otakar Vávra – the 1931 film is a poetic study of one of the very first kinetic sculptures in Czechoslovakia by sculptor Zdeněk Pešánek, whose painting is hanging in the foyer of the cinema.
From the 10th to the 16th of June, Edison filmhub and Kino Lucerna will also host the Film is GREAT festival featuring 20 British films and 6 premieres, including Brian Welsh’s Beats to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the British Embassy in Prague.
