SPOILERS.
We’re nearing the end of Season 1, and this penultimate episode answers a lot of questions and promises the intense and wonderfully chaotic finale that we’ve been waiting for.
To wrap things up from last week. David was banished to a dark corner of his mind so that the monster aka Lenny could do what he pleased with the Summerland gang, who were all imprisoned in David’s subconscious mind, while the bullets heading for David and Syd were inevitably tearing through the air of David’s childhood room. Got all that? Of course you don’t.
The monster continues to terrorise the gang, and the Eye, somewhat conscious of what’s going on, is chasing after Kerry, along with a hoard of zombie-like mental patients. This episode has a bit of a Marilyn Manson freak show feel to it. The Eye’s contorted and bone imploding death is pretty horrific, probably one of the most violent moments in the season so far. The silent movie editing of the scene is also just ingenious. Legion never fails to keep you guessing. BUT, I know I’ve said it several times already, but I’m just still not that convinced that Aubrey Plaza can be the bad guy.
Eventually, David manages to free himself from his own mind prison by talking to his subconscious self, and low and behold, it’s the real 100% British Dan Stevens – a nice touch indeed. Very clever sequence involving brainstorming, problem solving, and a blackboard. It was an essential breakdown for not only David, but majority of viewers that needed to confirm some plot details.
So, eventually we got everyone back into the original room from two episodes ago, bullets and all. A narrow escape back to Summerland, and a nice new headpiece for David to keep that thing under control, but obviously it wasn’t made to last.
Where are we heading from here? The Division 3 interrogator is back with some wicked face burn prosthetic make-up and is ready to take David on once again. I have a feeling that we’re going to witness a monster takeover one last time to get rid of this guy and all his men, before David is faced with finally having to destroy this thing once and for all. Let’s see. I have a feeling there’s going to be a death too. Oliver? Kerry and Cary maybe?
