10 photos of stunning Glencoe – filming locations for Harry Potter and Skyfall

By Ryan Keating-Lambert

I recently spent some time in Scotland and went to one of my favourite places in the world, and probably one of the most beautiful film locations in the world. Yes, New Zealand makes a nice Middle Earth, but I like Glencoe so much more.

Nestled deep in the Scottish Highlands, these misty and moody mountains have starred in the Harry Potter films, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Braveheart (boo), Skyfall, and many more.

Glencoe is accessible by both car and train, but be cautious with the weather. It has a tendency to get snowed in.

Check out some photos below.

  1. Yes, been up on top of Buchaille Etive Mhor on a snowy Easter Monday about 36 years ago. Fine going up, but when I was up on the ridge, looking down, I was petrified to step off the ridge. Just had to, though, or would have been stuck up there!
