Director Guillermo del Toro has been a busy guy lately with the launch of his new Netflix children’s animation series Trollhunters, and also with the blood-sucking vampire series The Strain, which just finished its third season. His latest film project however looks to be another passion project like Pan’s Labyrinth and 2015’s Crimson Peak. The director has been planning this film since before Pacific Rim, and even abandoned the sequel to make it happen.

The Shape of Water is still very much a secret, but it IS known that Del Toro film regular Doug Jones will play a fish-like human yet again. Sounds a bit like his character Abe Sapien in the Hellboy films. The story will be set in the U.S. during the Cold War and Jones seems to think that Oscar bells will be ringing in the near future.

Also starring the incredible Michael Shannon (Take Shelter, Nocturnal Animals) and Octavia Spencer (The Help, Snowpiercer).

The Shape of Water will be in select cinemas from December 8.
