I’ve been looking forward to this film for quite some time. First of all, it’s a heartwarming World War II story with the Jessica Chastain in a leading role. Second of all, it was filmed in Prague Zoo, one of the world’s best and the perfect backdrop for such an epic – those are real lion cubs! With Whale Rider director Niki Caro at the helm, I wouldn’t be surprised if The Zookeeper’s Wife receives Oscar attention in the near future. A moving trailer with a phenomenal backing track by Icelandic band Sigur Rós. Prague readers make sure you keep an eye out for familiarities, there are a few that pop up.
The Zookeeper’s Wife is based on the bestselling book by Diane Ackerman about Polish woman Antonina Żabińska (Jessica Chastain) and her husband Jan. The couple smuggled hundreds of Jews from the Warsaw ghetto into their zoo during World War II.
In select cinemas from March 31, 2017.
