Gore Verbinski (The Ring, Pirates of the Caribbean) is one of America’s more interesting directors. He used to be in a punk rock band called The Daredevils but sold his guitar to buy his first camera. His earlier professional work was in the world of music videos for bands like Bad Religion and L7, before he met success with the family fun Mousehunt, and of course the very successful remake of The Ring. After spending a lot of time with Johnny Depp on Pirates and other recent action/adventure outings, I think everyone’s a bit excited to see Verbinski get back to his uber visceral roots. Well, at least I am.
A Cure For Wellness follows a young professional travelling to a very peculiar wellness spa in Switzerland to track down his runaway CEO. The cast includes Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, Stranger Things), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter) and the beautiful Mia Goth (Nymphomaniac). This looks to be a very dark and spectacular project. Can’t wait!
