Ghost in the Shell review – cyberpunk is back!

The live-action adaptation of the cult anime Ghost in the Shell is probably one of the most visually perfect films to grace our screens so far this year. It's great to have some cyber punk to sink our teeth into again, but its poor attempts at provoking emotional responses and philosophical debate bring it down to your standard 3-star action film.

Choose life. Choose a book. Choose a film. Choose a sequel. Choose a franchise. Choose a universe. Choose merchandise. Trainspotting 2 thankfully doesn't tick all of the cliche sequel boxes, but does rely on nostalgia perhaps a little too much at times.

There's no point in hiding it; 2016 was a rubbish year. But let's be positive and look at the good stuff, shall we? It certainly wasn't a bad year for movies, if you forget about the disastrous summer of sequels, prequels, spin-offs and reboots that fell flat on their faces. So there's so much happening in the DCE universe that it's almost hard to keep up. We've got Wonder Woman coming out next year, followed closely by Justice League - let's hope that these two films will restore our faith in the DCE universe after the 'mixed' reviews of Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. There was also news a while back that Margot Robbie would be getting her own Harley Quinn spin-off movie, because let's face it, she was the coolest thing about Suicide Squad.
